How to Increase Blog Email Subscribers by 128% in 3 Months
When we first started our blog in July 2012, we were able to more than double our email subscribers in only three months, going from 28,538 at the beginning of July to 65,036 by the end of September. Our email subscriber base has grown to more than 200K people now. It all seems a little surreal, doesn’t it? Are you interested in learning how we achieved it? It’s so basic that you’ll want to slap yourself in the face. Simply adding a new check box option to all of our website forms allowed users to subscribe to our blog with a single click was all that was required on our part.
This approach of blog subscriber acquisition was very effective for us since we have a large number of landing pages on HubSpot.com – and because all that is required of the visitor to subscribe is to tick a box – and because it is so simple.
As a result of this essay, I’ll describe how you may apply this small, yet significant, piece of low-hanging fruit on your website in order to begin attracting more site visitors as blog subscribers and nurturing them with your content.
The Technology Required
Having the appropriate tools and technology may make or break your ability to put this modest strategy into action. At the most basic level, you require complete control over the fields on your landing page forms, as well as the ability to export a list of individuals who opt in to your blog using these forms so that you may add them to your blog subscriber list once they have completed the form. Users of HubSpot will find it much more straightforward. The new HubSpot CRM will make it simple for anyone to start increasing your email subscriber numbers right away with this simple method.

Step 1: Create a New Property
This is the property that will be used to add a new field to your forms in the future. If at all feasible, make it a check box so that visitors can simply opt in by selecting it from the list. Users of HubSpot’s Contacts Settings can add this additional attribute to their contacts.
Step 2: Add a New Field for the Property to Your Forms
Following that, you’ll need to build a new field based on your new property and include it in the form(s) on which you want it to show. Keep in mind that you don’t want to make it a prerequisite for anything. Doing so would imply that the visitor would be required to click the box and opt in to your blog in order to submit the form in its entirety, and you just want to provide them with the choice. Additionally, if your program permits it, make it “smart.” In other words, if someone has already ticked this box on a form that they have completed in the past, they will not see it again in the future when they return.
You want it to be an opt-in rather than an opt-out situation.
Step 3: Create a List of People Who Opt in Through the Check Box
Create a new field based on your newly discovered property and include it in the form(s) on which you wish it to appear. You don’t want to make it mandatory, so keep that in mind when writing it. In order to submit the form in general, the visitor would have to tick the box and opt in to your blog, and you just want to provide them with the option of doing so. A further consideration is to make your program “smart.” With this in mind, anyone who previously ticked this box on a form they completed will not be presented with this option again in the future.
In order to avoid an optout, you should make it a yes-only option.
Step 4: Set up a Workflow to Add Opt Ins to Your Blog Subscriber List
Following the identification of your check box opt ins, you must add them to your subscriber list so that they may begin getting the blog notification emails that they requested. For those who aren’t already using HubSpot, you may import your exported list of persons who clicked the box into your subscriber list. If you are a HubSpot customer, you can automate the process by creating a quickworkflow. Here’s how it’s done: 1) Make a selection from your Smart List: This is the list that you created in step three.
If you’re using HubSpot’s COS Blog, you have the choice of creating four distinct subscriber lists based on the frequency with which you send emails – immediate, daily, weekly, or monthly – and the number of subscribers you want.
This is because I did not want these new subscribers to be inundated with a barrage of emails, especially given the lack of clarity on what they are agreeing to by clicking the box on the form.
Specify what your new opt-ins have signed up for, what they’ll receive (and how much), and provide them with the option to adjust their email frequency settings if they want to receive blog emails more frequently or less frequently.

How More Blog Email Subscribers Helps Your Marketing
Why email subscribers (as opposed to RSS subscribers) are so beneficial for your blog is because you have access to their inbox. Furthermore, the greater the number of subscribers you have, the more traffic you may produce for your blog. Even this blog receives 14 percent of its monthly visitors by email, which is a significant amount. A critical point to remember about the new blog subscribers you’re acquiring through landing page check boxes is that they won’t have any direct effect on the amount of new leads you generate.
- In other words, they’re already in the driving seat.
- These are individuals who have the ability to spread your material to others through their social networks, and those individuals may or may not be leads at this time.

You probably already know why you want people to read your newsletters – perhaps because doing so can increase sales by 21 percent or cause people to spend 138 percent more than they would have otherwise if they hadn’t received your offer via email – but do you know why you don’t want them to read them? However, in order to get individuals to sign up for your newsletters, you must first understand their motivations. People must have a compelling reason to subscribe to your newsletter in order for them to do so.

If you have created a successful email marketing plan, you have most likely previously considered what your present and future consumers want to read about and why they would open your newsletters. Here are some suggestions:
- To gain knowledge about something intriguing (which might be anything from lifestyle suggestions that are connected to your product or service, a technique of tackling a specific problem in your sector, to a piece of news or trivial information)
- In order to get notifications about new goods, features, or special offers from you

- Organize a useful report/short ebook/webinar (preferably with a guest who already has a large number of subscribers than you and can invite them to the event) and promote it through sponsored / guest posts on social media, with a call to action requiring people to leave their email address in order to receive the useful content.
3. Invite them to online and offline events
Whatever your industry, whether you own an Indian restaurant or an online SaaS company, you may organize events that require attendees to sign up using their email address:
- A unique theme-night might be organized to commemorate a certain occasion at your traditional brick-and-mortar business with real premises: Halloween party, St. Patrick’s Night dinner, Christmas Shopping Discount Night, and other unusual gatherings may be found here, as can ideas for even more unusual events (happy chocolate mousse day, btw.)

- Promote your events on Facebook and all of your other social media platforms (ask your attendees to share the event as well in order to receive a special discount!) as well as on specific event-sharing sites (meetup.com, eventbrite, internations, and so on)
4. Bribe them.
If you already have some consumers, you may ‘bribe’ them by offering them a discount that they will only receive if they sign up for your mailing list. How?
- A discount button next to your checkout with the call-to-action ‘leave your email address to receive 10% off your order right now’ should be included. You run a regular business, don’t you? Print pamphlets with a discount offer and a QR code/short URL that directs them to your email subscription landing page to collect their contact information. The offer will only be available if your clients join your mailing list immediately
- Else, they will forfeit their discount.
5. Make it easy to subscribe and use every opportunity to collect emails
Sign-up forms should be included in your blog entries, and they should be placed in a prominent location so that they are impossible to miss whether the reader has reached the conclusion of the piece or not: For example, you might use them to fill the top of the page or put them in the side-bar of your website: Add pop-up windows and sign-up forms to your most popular sites, according to the source: Include links to your subscription landing sites in your social media postings, according to the source.
CTA buttons should be placed on all of your social media platforms.
But it’s important to note that no matter where your links and pop-ups are located, people will not sign up for your newsletters if they do not perceive clear benefits to doing so.

Is it worthwhile to establish your own newsletter?
Alternatively, should you wait until you have at least a few visitors to your site, with each visitor boosting the overall volume of traffic to your site?
You should undoubtedly begin building your email list as soon as possible after starting your business.
I mean, not only is it a fantastic method to make your site appear more professional.
Ideally, you want to provide your readers as much value as you possibly can, and one excellent method to do so, whether your blog is brand new or has been around for a while, is to have them join an email list and provide value, as well as interact with them in this way.
Actually, there are three things I’d like to highlight.
A lot of individuals are concerned about the expense of launching an email list from the very beginning of their business.

Let’s assume you have 10 visits every week, which isn’t a lot, but it’s a good beginning.
I mean, when you initially started a blog, it was likely that just you and your mother, or a few friends, or your roommates, or whatever, were aware of it.
In a month, forty different persons will be interviewed, with ten interviews every week.
Not “hot” in the physical sense, but “hot” in the sense that they want more from you.
What exactly did I have to offer you in terms of value?
In other words, you are not simply driving your automobile or writing a blog in whichever direction you feel like, but rather you are making decisions based on input from individuals who are a member of your target audience.
You may also receive valuable input for the future of your website as well as guidance on what to write about.
So these people that you connect with at the beginning of your blog’s existence, these X number of subscribers right at the beginning of your blog’s life, they’ll feel unique because they’re part of something exceptional.
Finally, and most importantly, growing your email list has the potential to dramatically grow your blog, as well as drive visitors to your site.
Every time you publish a new blog article, you should notify all of your email subscribers that a new blog post has been published.
And when they go to your website, it’s already there in their email waiting for them.
Consequently, they have granted you permission to do so, and if you send them this link and they visit your site, it counts as traffic, correct?
This authorization has been granted to you, as well as their declaration of admiration for your work.
So what occurs is that their followers, their admirers, or however many there are, will find their way to your web page.
A specific percentage of people will sign up for your email list.
And then there will be more people who may potentially share it, which will result in more people visiting your site, which will result in more people subscribing to your email list, etc.
As a result, your email list is a critical, even critical, component of the growth of your website.
It is not a waste of time.
I guarantee that if I had started my email list from the beginning and used it in a strategic manner, my blog would be significantly larger today.
With a smart passive income site, as well as with a lot of my other blogs, it took approximately a year and a half to really develop some traction and establish some credibility.
