Anyone who has 600 or more followers on Twitter can now host a Space on the platform. Having a feature like Spaces also assists users in building closer relationships with their target consumers.

How to start Twitter Spaces

  • From your timeline, touch on your profile image at the top of the screen to activate it. Afterwards, scroll to the right and touch on the option to create a new Space.

You may begin to build up your Space in the following phases before it is made public:

Name your Space

Give your Space a name that will be relevant to the future discussion session. You could even designate the Space with a hashtag as a means to continue the discourse after the event has concluded. Alternatively, you could use the hashtag to collect questions from followers before the event and then answer those questions live during the Space. Take, for instance, this Twitter Space using the term “hashtag” as its name:

Set up permissions and captions

When you first start using Spaces, Twitter will ask for your permission to caption your friends’ speeches in real time, which you may grant or deny. Users who are deaf or hard of hearing will find your Space more accessible as a result of transcriptions. Furthermore, Twitter intends to make Spaces more accessible to screen readers in the future.

Invite speakers

Once you have established a Space as a Host, you may invite others to participate in the discourse, either as a Speaker or as a Listener, in a variety of ways.

You’ll discover a few different options in the lower right-hand corner, one of which is to “invite other individuals to join.” This has the appearance of a little arrow pointing upward. Select one of the following options by tapping on this button:

  • Share your Space on Twitter so that your followers may join you in inviting Speakers through DM. Copy the URL to your Space so that you may share it with others.

Additionally, Twitter allows you to include up to 12 additional Speakers in your Space, including two Co-hosts and ten additional Speakers. While anybody may submit a request to speak in your Space, you have the option of imposing limits on who can talk in your Space. As the Host, you have the opportunity to do the following:

  • Everyone should be given the opportunity to speak. This implies that anyone can submit a request to speak, but they do not have to speak all at the same time. Allow only those that you are following to talk
  • Only those who have been invited to speak should be allowed to do so.

Additional features

  • Maintain control of your speakers. You have the option of muting them, removing them from the Space, or completely blocking them. Using this function in the event that someone is being disruptive or disrespectful is a fantastic idea. Tweets can be pinned to the space. As a result, your Space will be more accessible to listeners who are hard of hearing or who prefer subtitles.

As a Listener, you have the ability to:

  • Emojis may be used to express your feelings about what you’ve heard. Look for any Tweets that have been pinned
  • Captions are available to follow along with (or you may turn them off). Other participants can be contacted through Twitter or private mail. Please make an announcement if you wish to talk (assuming that the host has made the Space available for everyone to speak)

Everything You Need to Know About Twitter Spaces, the Clubhouse Rival

Audio streaming has received a great deal of attention in recent years. Clubhouse, the audio streaming software used by luminaries such as Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg to do live speeches, is almost certainly familiar to you (similar to live podcasts). Don’t be concerned if you haven’t received an invitation yet. Twitter has been developing its own audio product, Twitter Spaces, which it plans to make available to the general public on iOS and Android devices late in April 2021. Bonus: Download the free 30-day plan to expand your Twitter following quickly, which includes a daily workbook that will assist you in establishing a Twitter marketing routine and tracking your progress so that you can demonstrate genuine results to your boss after one month of hard work and dedication.

What is Twitter Spaces?

Twitter Spaces enables users to host and engage in live audio discussions that take place within “Spaces” on the Twitter platform (aka audio chat rooms). The software is presently under beta testing, and only those who have been selected to participate can establish their own Spaces at this time. Anyone with an iOS or Android device, on the other hand, may join and listen in on a Space. You can keep up with Spaces and other Twitter developments by visiting this page.

How to use Twitter Spaces

Please keep in mind that, at the time of writing, only authorized beta testers may begin playing Spaces. Once Spaces is made available to the general public, anybody will be able to host a Space (though your account must be public). You’ll begin writing a Space in the same manner you’d begin writing a tweet:

  1. On iOS, hold down the Composebutton for many seconds. Select the Spaces symbol (a diamond-shaped collection of numerous circles)

Alternatively, you can:

  1. In the same way you would if you were establishing a Fleet, tap your profile photo. To discover the Spaces option, move your cursor to the right. When you’re ready to get started, select Start your Space from the drop-down menu. By default, your microphone will be turned off, therefore you’ll need to activate it by hitting the microphone icon.

Turn on captions

When you host or talk in a Space for the first time, Twitter will ask if you want to have your speech captioned in the future. Customers can watch live subtitles while listening to a Space (they will need to select “display captions” from the Space’s configuration options). You, as the Host, are responsible for turning on captions for your Space. We strongly advise that you enable them in order to make your channel more accessible and inclusive for all listeners.

Add a description

Adding a description to your Space is something you can do when you create your Space (max 70 characters). The introduction should include a brief but particular sentence that outlines the topic that you’ll be speaking about and/or any guest speakers who will be appearing at your event. The title of your Space will be set by default to “‘s Space,” and it cannot be modified at this time.

How to add speakers to Twitter Spaces

You can invite up to ten persons (in addition to the Host) to be speakers in a Space. You may choose from three different types of speakers: It’s always possible to make changes later on when hosting a Space. If you choose “Only persons you invite,” you will be able to send invitations to speakers via direct message. Image courtesy of @wongmjane If you have a Space that is currently active, you can authorize requests from listeners to talk. Any speakers who have been approved by you will count against the 10-speaker restriction imposed.

Remember that if you block someone within a Twitter Space, you will also be blocking them on the rest of the Twitter network.

How to end a Twitter Space

Hosts can terminate a Space by hitting theLeave button in the upper right corner (this will end the Space for everyone). Alternatively, if a Space is found to be in violation of any Twitter Rules, it will be terminated. Users will no longer be able to access a Space after it has come to an end. Twitter will retain a record of the audio and subtitles for 30 days in the event that it needs to evaluate the conversation for any rule infractions.

Within 30 days (which can be extended to 90 days if an appeal is made), hosts will be able to obtain a copy of the Space’s data, which may include a transcript if closed captioning was enabled.

How to join a Space on Twitter

Anyone (even users of iOS and Android devices) can participate in a Twitter Space as a listener. At the moment, there are two methods to become a member of a Twitter Space:

  • The purple circle surrounding a host’s photo at the top of your timeline (the same as seeing Fleets)
  • Or the purple Spaces box within a tweet (the same as viewing Fleets). It is important to note that the Space must be active

Twitter Spaces vs Clubhouse: how do they compare?

Tweeting Spaces and Clubhouse appear to be quite similar in both appearance and functionality on the surface. However, while Clubhouse may have been the first to market, Spaces has already outperformed Clubhouse in a number of important ways (more on features below). Early users appear to agree that coming to a clubhouse is similar to attending a social event at someone else’s home; you may be compelled to engage with individuals you don’t know. Twitter spaces offer the sense of a small get-together with friends that you host at your house.

  • As of April 7, 2021, the following are the characteristics of Twitter Spaces and Clubhouse when compared side by side: It is yet to be seen how the complete introduction of Twitter Spaces will affect the popularity of the Clubhouse.
  • In contrast to Clubhouse, which is a new service that is establishing a user base from the ground up, Twitter already has millions of daily active users, giving Spaces an advantage.
  • The network has already been established.

5 ways to use Twitter Spaces for business

Everyone in the marketing industry is asking themselves the same question right now: Should I be preparing to include Spaces into my Twitter marketing strategy? Make sure you have a great Twitter marketing plan in place before responding to that inquiry. Being innovative and using the latest tools will not assist if your foundation is weak. This includes establishing meaningful discussions with your followers and understanding your brand’s voice, among other things. Once you’ve nailed down your strategy, here are some ideas to get you thinking about how your company may benefit from Twitter Spaces.

1) Thought leadership

One of the numerous benefits of utilizing social media for company (particularly B2B firms) is the opportunity to position your brand as a thought leader in your industry. Given the multi-speaker nature of Spaces, it appears to be a logical choice for holding industry panels of experts. Establishing your company’s thought leadership and providing value to your consumers may be accomplished by hosting a Twitter Space with professionals in your field. Alternatively, you may hold a live webinar in which one of your workers shares their industry knowledge.

2) Q As/AMAs

It would be a fantastic use of Spaces’ live nature and ability to request to speak to host a Q & A session or ask-me-anything session. There are many businesses that do this using Instagram Stories stickers, but using Twitter Spaces would provide a far better experience for consumers who would be able to ask questions to a real person and receive immediate gratification from hearing their questions answered straight away. Organizing an online Q and A session to address queries from customers about a new product or service can be an excellent idea.

3) Commentary on live events

Twitter is already quite popular for holding discussions on live events, such as sporting events and television shows/live broadcasts, and it is expected to continue to grow in popularity. If you’re a media company or publisher, you might utilize Twitter Spaces to give comments on important live events, and you could invite members of your community to participate as guest speakers (like radio talk shows). We’re already seeing this in communities like as NBA Top Shot, where publishers organize Spaces to debate the latest releases of their products.

4) Game shows/giveaways

Another radio-inspired use case for Twitter Spaces is to host a live game show with your followers, similar to the one described above. It might be centered around the release of a new research report, the debut of a new platform, or the expansion of a market. In the case of product launches, you might have listeners participate in some entertaining trivia tasks and then give your product away to the winner, giving them their first hands-on experience with your new product in exchange for their participation.

5) Album/movie/product releases

It’s difficult to think of a greater fit for an audio platform than music. For musicians, Twitter Spaces offers a fantastic opportunity to promote upcoming album releases by hosting a live record listening session with your greatest followers on the social media platform. This concept might also be applied to the release of films, television series, applications, or any other product for which a company wants to create anticipation ahead of time. In the following days, invite your most loyal followers or customers to a Space where they may toast the occasion and debate the release.

With the early success of Clubhouse and the upcoming introduction of Twitter Spaces, it appears that social audio will be around for a very long time.

Twitter Spaces is planned to be made available to the general public in April 2021.

Here’s what you should hear: Because of the rise of audio-based social networks, the next age of marketing is poised to become more personal, human, and two-way than ever before. In addition to Clubhouse, an audio-based social platform, Twitter has also hopped on the audio-network bandwagon with Twitter Spaces, a new audio-based social platform. Twitter Spaces provides a fantastic opportunity for your company to interact with its audiences in real time through live dialogue.

Don’t be concerned if you’re trying to navigate your marketing boat into the audio rooms as well, but aren’t sure where to begin.

Let’s get this party started!

What is Twitter Spaces?

Twitter Spaces is a live audio conversation feature within the Twitter app that allows users with more than 600 followers to host audio chat rooms and invite others to participate as speakers or listeners. Users with more than 600 followers can create audio chat rooms and invite others to participate as speakers or listeners. You might call it a podcast because it is live and available to anyone who wants to listen in. Spaces serve as an additional channel for individuals to share their opinions and expertise, in the same way that they did with tweets and in live audio discussion sessions.

Simply simply, Twitter Spaces is a fantastic area to engage in conversation and exchange ideas with other like-minded individuals.

Why is Twitter Spaces a big deal for Marketers?

Every day, new Spaces features are introduced to ensure a seamless flow of communication between speakers and listeners via the Twitter Spaces. The opportunities for marketers to develop a humanized brand are exploding in all directions. Let’s take a look at why Twitter Spaces can be a game changer for businesses.

1. Twitter has a massive and diverse audience reach

According to social media statistics, Twitter has over 353 million active users distributed over the world across different age groups who are already using Twitter to express their ideas and thoughts with one another to trade their ideas and thoughts with one another. Furthermore, Twitter is a fantastic platform for marketers to reach customers from a diverse range of backgrounds and demographics. Approximately 93 percent of brand followers on Twitter want to make a purchase from them. With the addition of an audio chat capability to the mix, Twitter has created yet another platform for companies and consumers to come together and engage on a more personal level.

2. The rise of the social audio

Clubhouse was the platform that ushered in the era of social audio platforms. Fortunately, it didn’t end there, and today, in addition to Twitter Spaces, major organizations such as LinkedIn, Spotify, Discord, Facebook, and Instagram are preparing to follow in the footsteps of their smaller counterparts. It’s because they appear to be quite popular with the crowd.

When combined with a pandemic world and screen weariness, the audio-only function has proven to be a fantastic respite for an audience that is starving for an actual human connection. This demonstrates that social audio is not a passing trend but is here to stay.

3. A great avenue to build community

Twitter Spaces may be the most informal method to interact with your followers on the social media platform. Doing a live video requires you to make arrangements for a suitable background, lighting, better camera equipment, and appropriate clothing, whereas you may host or participate in Twitter Spaces chat rooms while doing your laundry at the same time. Because of this relaxed atmosphere, Spaces provides a less intimidating environment for marketers to conduct honest dialogues and create meaningful relationships with their target audiences.

How to use Twitter Spaces?

You may create your own Space on Twitter and host it, or you can join someone else’s Space and talk or listen in on it. Because we all have something to say and something to learn, let’s talk about the step-by-step process of saying and learning what we have to say.

How to start a Twitter Space?

Twitter Spaces may be created on both the Android and iOS Twitter applications. Simply launch your Twitter application and press and hold the + post button until the “Spaces” option appears. Alternatively, you may go to your profile image in the upper left corner and touch on it in the same way you would for establishing a fleet, but this time scroll right in the camera mode to find the “Spaces” option, which is located on the far right. If you do not see Spaces in your tweet or camera choices, this means that Twitter Spaces is not yet available to you on your account.

Step 2: Name your Twitter Space

You will be presented with a prompt that asks you to name your Space. Because anybody, with the exception of those you have blocked, may join Spaces as a listener, give your Space a name that is relatable and clearly reflects the topic you will be talking in it. It will assist you in attracting a targeted audience. You have the option of starting your Space immediately or scheduling it for a later time.

Step 3: Manage your Space audience

Once your Space is up and running, you can invite others to join you by sending them a tweet or sending them a Direct message from the bottom-menu. As a host, you’ll have ample freedom to facilitate seamless talks in your designated space. You may have up to ten speakers conversing in your Space at the same time, with an unlimited number of listeners. To handle the visitor interaction within your Twitter Space, select the people icon from the menu bar. You can see how many individuals are now present in your Space, what their responsibilities are, and whether or not someone has requested to be a speaker.

Listeners can also volunteer to talk and participate in the debate by requesting to do so.

Step 4: Add captions in your Space

Twitter Spaces automatically displays subtitles for the words you are speaking while you are speaking.

Nothing more complicated than selecting the “View caption” checkbox by clicking on the three dots line. What is the importance of having captions in your Twitter chat room?

  • Captions make the conversation more accessible and inclusive for individuals from all over the globe
  • If you have captions turned on, you will be able to download a transcript of what you said once you have finished your Space. The recording and transcript of your chat will be retained by Twitter for up to 30 days for the purpose of security. You may use a transcript to go back over the chat and reuse the dialogue.

How do you find Spaces to join?

An icon with a purple circle will appear at the top of your screen in the fleets area whenever someone in your network begins or joins a Space. Among the information displayed in the purple circle will be the Space host’s profile image, username, and the total number of guests. Step 1: To enter the Space, tap on the purple circle at the top of the screen. Step 2: The next screen will provide all of the information about the people who are currently in the Space, including their jobs, as well as a button that says “Join this Space.” To activate the button, press it.

You have entered the Space at this point.

  • Request to be a speaker at an event
  • Captions should be enabled. See the list of speakers and listeners for further information. Send emoji replies
  • Check out the tweets that have been pinned
  • Share the Space on Twitter or in a Direct Message

Joining as a speaker or becoming a speaker later on, on the other hand, gives you the ability to discuss and share tweets in Space. But hold just a minute, there’s more. Twitter is also experimenting with a new tab that will allow users to quickly identify the most relevant audio conversations that are taking place in their network. It will provide you with an additional method to join Spaces. Currently, the function is in the testing phase and is only available to a small number of community members, but it will soon be made available to everyone.

A Few Ideas to use Twitter Spaces for Business

Getting on Twitter Spaces and empowering your community-building and nurturing ideas must be something you are looking forward to. By all means, go ahead and do it, but make sure you have a sound strategy in place before you dive into this new ecology. Simply simply, decide what you’re going to talk about before you do. Let’s go through some suggestions to help you get your Twitter Spaces conversation going in order to get more engagement.

1. Discuss industry topics and trending news

Your target audience is constantly interested in learning about the changing dynamics of the industry and how they can adapt to these changes in order to succeed. It is possible to satiate this need for knowledge by arranging seminars that discuss what is currently going on in the sector. Can you tell me about the what’s, why’s, and who’s of your field? Using the multi-speaker capability of Twitter Spaces, you can put together a panel of industry experts and share their knowledge with your audience, adding value to their experience.

It is through this real exchange of ideas that you can gain a better understanding of how your target audience views the new developments and how your product or service may assist them in the long term.

2. Get feedback on your new features or product

It’s difficult to forecast whether or not your loyal consumers will appreciate the new feature you’ve developed. The greatest thing you can do in this situation is to simply ask them! And this is something that we have all been doing through the use of survey forms, demos, emails, and other means. Twitter Spaces is a new customer feedback channel that you can add to your existing customer feedback channels.

Using Twitter Spaces, you may solicit input from followers who are already familiar with your product and have used it on a regular basis. The real-time dialogue will allow for a more rapid exchange of ideas than would be possible through any other media.

3. Answer public with Q A Spaces

Twitter Spaces has provided a new opportunity for marketers and community managers to interact more deeply with their target audiences. Space’s audio-based engagement fosters a more personal relationship that is impossible to achieve in a tweet with only 280 characters to spare. Isn’t there something special about the sound of a human voice? Using Twitter Spaces to host Q&A sessions is one approach to put the platform’s potential to greater use. You can provide answers to consumers’ inquiries regarding a new product or feature that has been introduced.

On Twitter Spaces, you may also implement a variety of social media promotion concepts, such as contest prizes, account crossovers, and community catchups for discussing live events.

With additional features like as Reserved Space, co-hosting, and an enhanced caption experience in the horizon, Twitter is well on its way to become the undisputed monarch of live audio platforms, according to the company.
